How to play Seega online

  1. Choose a capture study, a complete game against the computer or two players on this device.
  2. In a full game, alternate placing two stones per turn while leaving the center empty.
  3. After placement, slide one stone orthogonally into a neighboring empty square and close sandwiches to capture.
  4. Continue capturing with the same stone or end the chain. In a study, reach the displayed quota before your own-turn budget runs out.

Controls

Tap a stone and an adjacent empty square to preview a slide, then press Confirm move. During placement, choose an empty square and press Place stone. Arrow keys move focus, Enter selects, Space or M confirms and E ends a capture chain. H requests a study hint, U undoes a study turn and L toggles the forecast. Board & captures pauses play for inspection.

A tip before you start

Check the square beyond an opposing stone before choosing a destination. Your moving stone must close the sandwich; simply moving between two enemy stones does not capture you. The center is protected even when it appears trapped.

Build the board two stones at a time

The five-by-five board begins empty. Ivory and Jade each have twelve stones; Ivory places first and each side places two per turn. Any empty square except the center may be used. Placement cannot capture. Once all twenty-four stones are down, Jade, the second player to place, makes the first slide. This edition uses a modern free-placement profile, so there is no prescribed opening pattern to memorize.

Close a sandwich from an empty destination

A slide travels one square up, down, left or right. It cannot jump or land on another stone. After the slide, an opposing stone immediately beside the moved stone is captured if another friendly stone stands immediately beyond it. The three squares must form a straight horizontal or vertical line. Every qualifying capture happens together, so one step can remove stones in more than one direction.

The rosette protects its occupant

C3, the center square marked with a blue rosette, cannot lose its stone to capture. A stone there may still serve as the far end of a sandwich against a neighbor. Moving your own stone between two enemy stones is also safe: a capture occurs only when an opponent makes the closing move. Use the forecast to inspect the destination and the stones that would be removed before confirming.

A capture can open another capture

After capturing, you may move the same stone again if its next slide also captures. You may instead choose End chain. You cannot switch to a different stone or add a quiet slide as a continuation. A normal turn does not force you to choose a capture when another legal slide is available. Keeping the turn can be useful, but ending a chain may preserve a stronger shape for later.

Twenty original goals with a clear turn budget

Studies start from positions reached after legal placement and play. Capture at least the displayed number of opposing stones before the allowed number of your turns ends, against defenders that try to prevent the goal. Early studies introduce capture chains in one turn; later studies require setup and replies across two or three own turns. Each position has successful and unsuccessful choices, checked independently. The capture quota need not grow at every level: needing an extra setup turn creates a different planning problem. Meeting the quota completes the lesson immediately and does not claim that the whole match is won.

Understand what uses a study turn

Several captures in one chain still belong to one turn. End chain finishes that turn, as does a slide with no available continuation. If the opponent has no slide and passes, your next turn counts separately. The display tracks turns already ended and captures already made. Two hints can select a move that keeps the quota guaranteed; if no such move remains, the message recommends Undo. Undo restores your last whole or partial turn and all replies, while used hints stay spent.

Full games and the quiet-slide limit

A full match starts from the empty board and continues until every enemy stone is captured or this edition's quiet-game limit is reached. A blocked side passes until an opening appears; blocking alone does not win. After twenty consecutive slides without a capture, the side with more stones on the board wins, or equal counts draw. Captures reset that counter. End chain and forced passes do not increase it. This is a stated convention for finishing a stalled digital session, not a universal historical Seega rule. If neither side can slide, the same stone-count result applies.

Know which Seega profile you are playing

Seega editions differ in the first moving player, capture continuations, blocking and when a game ends. Seega follows the modern core described by Bead and xbasoft, with optional same-stone capturing chains. Its repeated-pass and twenty-quiet-slide convention is also documented by Bodogemu. It does not use a forced opening pattern, a compulsory continuation, immediate loss on blocking or victory merely for leaving one opposing stone. Read these details before carrying a strategy over from another edition.

Choose an opponent and keep your place

Play a full match against a computer or share the board with another person on the same device. The computer uses a bounded search and does not claim expert play. Full matches have no undo; studies provide it for learning. Pause, Help and Board & captures suspend play. Local storage can preserve the exact legal history, study unlocks, scores and sound. Restart and mode changes ask before replacing the current board. Invalid saves, unavailable storage and failed artwork loads have recovery notices. There are no online rooms or cash stakes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play the Seega board game online for free?

Yes. Seega runs in the browser with no ads, download or account. Choose twenty original studies, a full computer game or two players sharing one device.

Can the stone on the center square be captured?

No. The occupant of C3 is protected, although it can help capture an opposing stone on a neighboring square.

What happens if I move between two opposing stones?

Your stone stays on the board. Only an opponent's closing move creates a capture; moving yourself into that position does not remove your stone.

Do I have to keep capturing with the same stone?

In this edition, you may continue only with another capturing slide by that stone, or choose End chain. You may not switch stones during the continuation.

Does blocking the other player win the game?

No. A blocked side passes until a legal slide becomes available. This edition resolves twenty consecutive quiet slides by the number of stones remaining, with equal counts drawing.

Does completing a study prove I have won the whole game?

No. A study proves that its capture quota was reached within the stated own-turn budget. It ends at that teaching goal, which is separate from the full-match result.

Can I undo, save or play with a friend?

Studies allow whole-turn Undo, which keeps hints spent. Full matches have no undo. Valid legal histories can resume through local storage, and the two-player mode lets a friend share the same device; there are no online rooms.
