How to play Gotcha Darts online
- Choose a full CPU match or a study. Check your total, the opponent's total and the points remaining to reach 301.
- Tap, click or drag on the board to choose an aim. Start sight, lock the horizontal position, then press Throw to lock the vertical position and release a dart.
- Matching the opponent's positive total resets it immediately. Reach exactly 301 to win. If you exceed 301, the whole turn rolls back, including an earlier reset.
Controls
Tap or drag to aim, or use the arrow buttons and keys. S starts the sight, X locks the horizontal position and T throws. Escape cancels a shot, H suggests an aim, and U or Ctrl+Z undoes your last throw with any CPU replies. Help, pause, score log, sound and full-screen controls stay separate from the board.
A tip before you start
Count a route through the rival's score before aiming for the finish. If you begin on 239 and the rival has 256, a single 17 resets the rival, then triple 15 completes 301. A larger first throw could miss that reset entirely.
Gotcha darts rules used in this game
Two players start at zero and alternate turns of up to three darts. Each hit adds its normal value: singles, doubles and triples, with outer bull worth 25 and inner bull worth 50. The first player to reach exactly 301 wins immediately. No double is required to start or finish.
The reset happens after each dart
Whenever your new positive total equals your opponent's total, their score drops to zero. The check happens on every dart, so you can reset them with your first dart and keep climbing with the rest. Merely passing their number does not count. Zero is safe.
A bust restores both scores
A throw above 301 ends your turn. Your total returns to its start-of-turn value, and the opponent also regains any score you erased earlier in that turn. For example, starting at 270 against 280, single 10 produces a Gotcha; a following triple 20 busts and restores 270–280.
Know which version you are playing
This game uses per-dart matching and whole-turn rollback. Some electronic machines deduct the overshoot from the old score, and some groups compare totals only after all three darts. Those are different profiles. This game also excludes double-out and master-out restrictions.
Aim and time a real simulated throw
The moving sight determines the actual impact. Lock X, then time the vertical lock; no extra hidden error is added to your shot. The CPU chooses from public scores and has seeded aiming variation. The board is a virtual game, not a camera scorer or a tool for recording physical darts.
Twenty reset-and-finish studies
Each study begins at a position reached by legal throws. Reset the rival and reach exactly 301 within the current three-dart turn. The rival takes no turn inside this exercise. Early routes need at least two scoring darts; later routes need three. The distance to the finish grows from 62 to 155, and sight speed increases each level.
Hints and Undo preserve the lesson
Studies provide two successful hints that select a valid finishing route. If no route remains, the hint says so without using the allowance. Undo restores your throw and any CPU replies, including the random state, but does not refund hints. Match hints are simple suggestions rather than optimal-play guarantees.
Review the score and restart safely
The score log records each hit, reset and later rollback. Restart repeats the initial setup after confirmation; New match uses a fresh seed. Study unlocks, best results and sound preference save locally when storage is available. Unfinished matches restart on reload. There are no accounts, cash stakes or remote multiplayer.
Frequently asked questions
Does a bust undo an earlier Gotcha?
Yes, in this profile. Both scores and the turn's reset count return to their values before the turn began.
Do I have to finish with a double?
No. A single, double, triple or bull can finish as long as your total becomes exactly 301.
Can I reset the opponent on my first dart?
Yes. Matching is checked after every dart. You may use your remaining darts unless that throw already wins the game.
Why did reaching 301 fail a study?
The study has two requirements: reset the rival and then finish. A direct finish that skips the required reset wins an ordinary match but does not solve that study.
Can I undo a CPU reply?
Undo restores the previous human throw together with any automatic replies, keeping the same CPU random state for a repeat.
Is this a physical darts scorekeeper?
No. You aim and time throws on the virtual board. It does not use a camera or record physical-board throws.
