Play Hangman Online

Keep the fruit by guessing the hidden word before six wrong letters. Hangman combines twenty solo vocabulary challenges with a local two-player game: one person chooses a secret word, then passes the device to the guesser. Correct guesses reveal every matching letter, while repeated guesses never cost another fruit.

How to play Hangman online

  1. Choose Solo for words with definition clues, or Two players to take turns setting a secret word on the same device.
  2. Tap a letter on the screen keyboard or type A–Z. A correct letter appears everywhere in the word. A wrong letter removes one of the six fruits.
  3. Finish every word in a solo challenge to unlock the next. In Two players, choose Next round after the result to swap the setter and guesser.

Controls

Use the screen keyboard, type A–Z, or move the focus with Left and Right and press Choose letter. Undo reverses the last guess. Solo offers a limited Reveal-letter hint through the Hint button, and Retry word lets you practice a missed answer. Restart and mode changes ask for confirmation.

A tip before you start

Use the definition and visible letter pattern together. A repeated letter can reveal several spaces at once, and a familiar word ending may narrow the next guess. The tried letters stay marked so you do not need to remember every attempt.

Hangman games to learn English

The solo sequence uses sixty common English words and original definition clues. Early challenges draw on everyday objects, the middle group adds garden and home vocabulary, and the last group uses longer nature words. This is vocabulary practice without a timer or a claim about measured learning results.

Twenty growing challenges

The required number of words rises from one in the first challenge to twenty in the last. Vocabulary groups advance along the sequence, and the total hint allowance drops from three to two and then one. Each word begins with six allowed mistakes. After a miss, the answer is shown and Retry word keeps the words you already completed in that challenge.

A two-player game on one device

The word setter enters one A–Z word of three to eighteen letters and may add a clue while the other player looks away. The input is cleared when the handoff screen appears. The guesser then chooses Ready. Solving earns the guesser a point; six wrong guesses earn the setter a point. Next round swaps their roles. There are no remote rooms.

Free browser play

Open the game without installing an app or creating an account. All solo challenges and same-device two-player rounds are free to play. No ads. The garden fruit marks remaining mistakes; the game uses no gallows illustration.

Frequently asked questions

Do both players need a device?

No. Two players share one computer, tablet or phone. One sets the word, then passes the device on the handoff screen. It is a local game, with no online matchmaking.

Are custom words checked by a dictionary?

No. The setter chooses the answer. The game accepts one word of three to eighteen letters A–Z, without spaces, digits or punctuation.

What does Undo restore?

Undo restores the previous guess and any mistake or point it caused. In Solo, undoing a revealed letter does not refund the used hint. Once you start the next word or round, the previous round cannot be undone.

Do two-player wins unlock solo levels?

No. Only completing every word in a solo challenge unlocks the next solo level. Two-player points stay separate.

What is saved when I reload?

Solo unlocks, best scores and sound settings are kept when browser storage works. Unfinished words, two-player points and custom secret words are not saved. Reloading begins a fresh solo game.

Can I play on my phone?

The portrait game window shows the word, clue, remaining fruit and letter keyboard together. Touch controls and screen buttons use the same rules as the physical keyboard. Help opens separately.
