How to play Reaction Time Test online

  1. Choose 5-Tap Test or 20 Challenges, then press Start. During WAIT, keep your hands ready without pressing a lantern.
  2. When GO appears, press its numbered lantern as soon as you can. The leaf picture, GO word and number identify the target together.
  3. If STOP appears, hold still until the signal ends. A warm bud picture and the STOP word distinguish it without relying on color alone.
  4. Complete a challenge with no more than two mistakes to unlock the next. The five-tap test separately collects five valid GO samples and reports their median and average.

Controls

Tap or click a lantern, or use keys 1–4 for its number. Space or Enter also press lantern 1 when you are focused on the board. S starts a waiting round. The canvas records pointer presses when the finger or mouse goes down; moving or releasing afterward is not another response. Holding a key does not create repeated samples. Nearby buttons provide the same actions.

A tip before you start

Keep your eyes on the signal word and numbered position. Pressing before GO is a false start, even if the lantern lights immediately afterward. In the challenge mode, accuracy matters as well as speed: a fast response to STOP is still a mistake.

Five valid samples, with clear feedback

The 5-Tap Test uses one lantern. A premature or missed response retries the current trial instead of filling a result slot. After five valid responses, the game shows the median and average of those samples. This mode never unlocks challenge levels.

A reaction time training game with twenty levels

The challenge ladder starts with six trials, one possible position and a 1.60-second GO window. Each level adds one trial and shortens that window by 30 milliseconds. Later stages introduce up to four positions and five STOP trials. The final level has twenty-five trials and a 1.03-second window. A third mistake ends the attempt, and Restart lets you try again.

Choices beyond a single flashing target

If you enjoy reaction time online games, the challenge mode adds a decision to each signal: find the numbered GO lantern, or withhold your press when STOP appears. The lantern art, text and number reinforce the instruction. Signals stay steady during each trial; they do not use rapid strobing.

Know what the timing means

The displayed milliseconds are approximate timings for this browser session. Screen refresh, input hardware and browser processing affect the result, so scores from different devices are not directly comparable. This is an entertainment exercise, not a clinical assessment or a promise of better performance in other games.

Take a break without a timing penalty

Pause, opening Help, leaving the tab or changing the window size cancels the current waiting or live signal without adding an error. Resume and press Start to retry that trial. Results that were already completed remain part of the current attempt.

Original lantern artwork and local progress

The game uses original illustrated botanical lanterns and an evening greenhouse tabletop. The whole play area and required controls fit the game window, with Help in a separate dialog. Challenge unlocks, best scores and sound save locally when storage works. Test samples and unfinished attempts reset after reloading.

Frequently asked questions

Does a faster tap always count as correct?

No. A press during WAIT is too early. In challenges, you must also choose the numbered GO lantern and avoid pressing during STOP.

How many mistakes are allowed?

Challenges allow two mistakes. A third ends the attempt. The separate five-tap test retries invalid trials until it has five valid samples.

Why did my result change on another device?

Screen refresh, input delay and browser processing contribute to the displayed timing. Compare attempts on the same setup if you want a more consistent personal reference; the game provides no cross-device ranking.

Does the test unlock harder challenges?

No. The five-tap test and challenge progression are separate. Completing a challenge unlocks the next challenge.

Can I use a keyboard or touch screen?

Yes. Use the numbered lanterns or nearby buttons on a touch screen. On a keyboard, keys 1–4 select the matching number and S starts a round.

Is there a medical or competitive score interpretation?

No. Results are for this short entertainment exercise. The game does not diagnose a condition, assign an intelligence score or certify competitive ability.
