How to play Irish Snap online
- Choose a challenge or Fresh CPU match, then press Start. Four players receive 13 unseen cards each. The table flips cards automatically while the displayed call counts from Ace through King and repeats.
- Slap the center or press Space when the current card matches the call or has the same rank as the previous card. On any other card, wait. Suits do not matter.
- The last player to slap a match takes the whole center pile. A false slap also takes it. That player begins the next sequence at Ace. Win by emptying your hand after the final card's response is resolved.
Controls
Tap the large center area or Slap button, or press Space, Enter or S. B starts or resumes. Touch registers on pointer down; dragging or releasing does not add another response. Only the current card's response window accepts input. Help opens separately, and Pause freezes the remaining time.
A tip before you start
Read the called rank without forgetting the previous card. If the call is Seven and two Jacks appear in succession, slap because their ranks match. If the current card is a Seven, slap even when the previous rank is different. Neither a matching suit nor a lone face card is enough.
A clear four-player rules profile
This version uses 52 cards without jokers, clockwise turns and the player left of the dealer starting. Each player holds an unseen stack. Calls cycle Ace, 2, 3 and onward through 10, Jack, Queen and King, then return to Ace. The cards flip automatically so you can concentrate on recognition and timing.
Two reasons to slap
The current card must either match the called rank or match the rank immediately below it in the center pile. These doubles count regardless of the call. Card suits do not affect either test. There is no special Queen, Joker, sandwich or direction-reversal rule.
Why the slowest player takes the pile
On a valid match, every player reacts and the slowest receives the entire center pile under their own cards. A false slap has the same pickup penalty. The pickup player flips next, and the call restarts at Ace. CPU players recognize the public match and use preset response delays; they do not inspect unseen cards.
The last card still needs a response
The first empty hand wins, but this app resolves the response to that last card first. If you play your last card and then slap falsely or finish last on a match, you collect the pile and continue. Exact ties for the latest response assign the pickup to the first tied seat clockwise from the player who flipped. This version does not require an additional future slap after a safely emptied hand.
Twenty complete matches that become faster
Every challenge is a complete fixed-deal match that you must win. Each next level reduces the card window by 30 milliseconds and the slowest CPU delay by 35 milliseconds. Level 1 gives a 1.50-second card window with the last CPU at 1.25 seconds; level 20 uses 0.93 seconds and 0.585 seconds. Both matching and nonmatching cards remain part of play.
Try a fresh match at medium pace
Fresh CPU match creates a new deal at the level-10 pace. It follows the same complete rules and does not unlock challenges. There is no overall match timer, cash stake, account or remote multiplayer.
Pause without losing the current card
The response clock starts after the revealed card is drawn. Pause, Help, changing window size or leaving the window freezes the elapsed budget. Start resumes that same card with its remaining time. One human response is accepted per card; presses before the reveal or after its window cannot carry into the next card.
Restart and keep your progress
Restart repeats the initial deal after confirmation. New match creates another deal in Fresh CPU match mode. Challenge unlocks, best results and sound preference save locally when storage is available; unfinished matches restart on reload. There are no timed-play hints or Undo. Reaction readings are for this casual game and vary with your screen, browser and input device.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Irish Snap card game the same as ordinary Snap?
No. Here, called ranks can trigger a slap, and the slowest player takes the pile as a penalty. The goal is to empty your hand. Ordinary Snap often rewards the fastest player with cards instead.
Do two matching ranks count if the spoken number is different?
Yes. A double is a valid slap in this version, even when neither card matches the call.
Should I slap every Jack?
No. A Jack only qualifies when Jack is the current call or the previous card is another Jack. Jack-only Slapjack is a different game.
What happens if I press twice?
Only the first accepted response to a card counts. Holding a key, moving a finger or releasing it does not add another slap.
Do I win as soon as my last card appears?
The last card's response must finish first. A slow or false slap can give you cards again. If your hand remains empty after that response, you win.
Does restarting a challenge shuffle it?
No. Restart repeats its initial deal so you can practice the same challenge. Fresh CPU match and its New match button provide new deals.
