  2. Choose an empty destination peg or one whose top disk is larger.
  3. Move all disks to the right-hand target peg to complete the challenge.

Controls

Tap a source peg and a destination, drag between pegs, or use the Left, Middle and Right buttons. Tap the selected peg again to clear the selection. Undo reverses a move. Hint makes one shortest-route move while hints remain.

A tip before you start

Keep the smallest disks available to move out of the way. Before moving a large disk, think about where the smaller stack will go next.

A tower of Hanoi puzzle online, two moves at a time

The twenty starting layouts have exact shortest distances of two, four, six and onward to forty moves. A complete search of the legal states verifies those distances. The number of disks grows from three to six, and hints decrease from twenty to one.

Distributed starting positions

These challenges use standard three-peg move rules, with the disks already spread across the pegs. They are not twenty repetitions of a full tower on the left. The display shows the shortest moves remaining from your current legal position, and there is no move limit or timer.

Frequently asked questions

Is this towers of Hanoi game online free?

Yes. Every challenge is free with no ads and no download.

What do the numbers on the disks mean?

They identify the disk sizes. Disk one is the smallest; a higher-numbered disk must remain below a lower-numbered disk on the same peg.

Why was a move refused?

You can move only a peg’s top disk, and its destination must be empty or have a larger top disk.

How is progress saved?

Unlocked challenges, best scores and sound settings are saved in this browser when local storage is available. An unfinished board resets after a reload. Restart asks for confirmation and keeps your unlocked challenges.

Can I play on a phone or computer?

Use touch or a mouse, or focus the labeled action buttons with a keyboard. The board fits its game window and switches to a portrait layout on phones. Help opens in its own dialog, and full screen is available where supported.
