How to play Checkers online

  1. Choose Two players to share one device, Vs computer for a complete solo match, or Challenges for a Black-to-move endgame target.
  2. Select a piece and a highlighted destination. A capture is compulsory whenever one is available; complete every required jump with the same piece.
  3. Capture all opposing pieces or leave the opponent without a legal move. In Challenges, Black must force that win within the displayed number of turns.

Controls

Tap a piece and each destination, or drag the piece to its first landing and tap any remaining jump destinations. Previous square, Next square and Use square provide button controls. A partial jump sequence remains a preview until completed; Cancel chain or Undo turn restores the position before that sequence. After a completed turn, Undo turn restores your move and the computer reply, or one player's complete turn in Two players mode. Hint outlines a complete move; Play hint applies it. Pause stops play. Restart and mode changes ask for confirmation.

A tip before you start

Look beyond the first jump. A compulsory capture can pull a piece away from its defenders, and a small sacrifice can force the opposing king onto a vulnerable square. Check every legal reply before committing to an endgame route.

Two players sharing one screen

If you want checkers online 2 players on a shared phone, tablet or computer, choose Two players. Both people take turns on the same board, with Black moving first. This mode has no remote rooms, friend invitations or matchmaking between separate devices.

Full games against the computer

Vs computer starts with twelve pieces per color on the dark squares of a standard eight-by-eight board. You play Black and the computer plays White through a complete match. Its search is bounded so turns remain practical; it is a practice opponent, not a claimed perfect player.

Twenty endgames with verified winning routes

Challenges use twenty separate legal endgame positions. Black has a verified strategy that wins against every legal reply within the displayed turn limit. The minimum required planning depth increases from one to four Black turns, and fixed proof-search work increases at every level. The defender checks whether a reply can defeat your remaining deadline after a mistake. If exact analysis reaches its safety limit, use Undo or Restart; the game does not award an unverified success. Only successful challenges unlock the next challenge.

Mandatory jumps, complete chains and promotion

Ordinary pieces step or jump diagonally forward. If any piece can capture, you must choose a capture; you may choose any complete available sequence, even when another sequence captures more pieces. Keep jumping with the same piece until its sequence ends. Reaching the far row crowns the piece and ends that turn immediately, including during a capture. Kings marked K move one diagonal square or jump an adjacent opponent in any of the four diagonal directions; they are not flying kings.

Winning, drawing and trying again

Having no legal move loses the game, whether your pieces are gone or blocked. This version automatically declares a draw when the same board and player to move occur three times, or after eighty player turns with no capture and no ordinary piece moving. A draw does not satisfy a challenge's winning target. Undo remains available after a result so you can revisit the preceding decision.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play free checkers games for 2 players on one phone?

Yes. The complete same-device and computer modes, plus all twenty challenges, are free to play in your browser, with no ads and no download.

Can two friends play from different devices?

No. Two players means two people taking turns on one device. There are no online rooms or invitations to a second device.

Can ordinary pieces capture backward?

No. Under this game's English/American rules, ordinary pieces move and capture forward. Only kings can move and capture backward.

Why did my jump stop when the piece became a king?

Promotion ends the turn immediately. The new king must wait until its next turn before making a backward move or jump.

Does a full-game win unlock a challenge?

No. Only meeting a target in Challenges unlocks the next challenge. Computer and same-device matches have separate results.

What happens when I reload?

Reloading opens a fresh board at Challenge 1. Unlocked challenges, best scores and the sound setting remain saved in this browser when local storage is available. An unfinished board and the selected full-game mode are not restored.

Can I play on a phone?

The board and controls scale to the available window, with touch, mouse and button controls. Help opens separately. Full screen is available where supported by your browser.
