The Beleaguered Castle card game begins with a small advantage: all four Aces are already home. The challenge is to free the other forty-eight cards without a stock or a spare cell. Garden Beleaguered Castle pairs full face-up deals with twenty original practices about empty columns, landing ranks and keeping all four suits moving.
How to play Garden Beleaguered Castle online
- Choose an unlocked practice, a shuffled full deal or the fixed repeatable deck.
- Expose the next card needed by each suit foundation.
- Move one exposed card at a time, following the column rules shown in Help.
- Use empty columns as temporary workspaces and bring every card home from Ace to King.
Controls
Tap a source pile, tap a destination and press Move. Tap the selected source again or press Clear to cancel. Arrow keys choose sources and destinations; Enter selects, P moves, H hints and U or Ctrl+Z undoes. Pile details lists every card.
A tip before you start
Before moving a card home, look at which exposed card could use it as a landing place. An empty column accepts any card, but filling your last empty column can remove your only way around a blocked low card.
Eight columns, with the Aces already home
The opening layout has eight columns of six face-up cards. Each suit foundation begins with its Ace. Build those foundations from 2 through King to finish. There are no hidden cards, reserve cards, stock draws or redeals. Every decision uses the exposed end of a column, although Pile details lets you read the full order underneath.
Rank matters more than color
Move one exposed card onto a card exactly one rank higher. A black 7 may go onto a red 8 or a black 8: neither suit nor color restricts column building. A descending sequence still moves one card at a time. Ace and King do not wrap around, and a blank column can receive any single card.
Create space before dismantling it
An empty column is a temporary workspace. Moving a King there can uncover a Queen, but that King may also become a useful landing point for another Queen elsewhere. Compare the low cards you need for the foundations with the landing cards you still need on the table. This edition keeps foundation cards home; Undo can reverse the last action.
A course about exposed-card paths
Twenty original constructed positions grow from eight to forty-six cards outside partly completed foundations. Every start needs some column rearrangement; simply sending available cards home will not finish it. Longer blocked columns require longer chains of individual moves. The examples are teaching constructions, not claimed histories from shuffled deals or proofs of minimum human difficulty.
Use a hint without surrendering the choice
A practice offers up to three hints. Each hint verifies a complete continuation, then selects one move for you to confirm. If the search reaches its budget, the result is unknown and no hint is charged. A suggested route is not a claim that other moves lose. Full-game hints offer legal moves only; shuffled games are not guaranteed solvable.
Play at your own pace
Play free online with no ads, download, account or timer. Undo preserves the number of hints already used. Restart and mode changes ask before replacing the active board. Unlocked practices, the active game and sound settings save on this device when browser storage is available. Pile details keeps the full card order readable when long columns are compressed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move a whole sequence?
No. This version moves one exposed card at a time, even if several cards form a descending sequence.
Does an empty column need a King?
No. Any single card can fill an empty column.
Why do the Aces start on the foundations?
That is part of the Beleaguered Castle setup. Streets and Alleys instead leaves the Aces in the tableau.
Can foundation cards return to the table?
They stay home in this edition. Use Undo to reverse your most recent action.
Are all shuffled games winnable?
No guarantee is made for shuffled full games. The twenty constructed starting practices have verified finishing routes.
Does the game save my progress?
It saves locally when browser storage is available. If storage is blocked, you can continue the session without a persistent save.
