Choose a full two-deck game, a fixed practice deal or an unlocked study.
Find a card in the lowest row or directly above an empty cell.
Select the card and its matching Ace-up or King-down foundation, then confirm Move card.
Deal another row when ready. After the stock is empty and all foundation moves are exhausted, use the single redeal.
Move all 104 cards to the eight foundations. Undo lets you compare an earlier choice if the route becomes blocked.
Controls
Tap an exposed row card, tap its foundation, then press Move card. Previous and Next cell move focus; Select cell selects it. Next target cycles the foundations. Left and Right move focus, Up and Down change the foundation, Enter or Space selects, P moves, D deals, H hints, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, and Escape clears. Row details lists the board and explains the latest study hint.
A tip before you start
A gap immediately below a card makes it available, even if there are cards farther down the same column. Before dealing, look for exposed cards that the new row will cover. Moving a card now and dealing now are separate choices, and either can change the eventual finishing route.
Eight foundations in two directions
A full deal uses two standard decks. The first eight cards form one face-up row, and the remaining ninety-six stay in the stock. Four foundations build by suit from Ace to King. The other four build by suit from King to Ace. Every foundation holds thirteen cards. A card can move only from an exposed row cell to a matching foundation; this version has no foundation transfers, return moves or building between row cards.
Read the cell directly below
A card is available when it is in the last dealt row or has an empty cell immediately below it. You do not have to clear the whole column beneath it. Removing a card leaves a lasting gap and can expose the card directly above. Green borders mark available cards, while blocked cards are darkened. Gold marks your selected card and destination. Foundation direction and suit still matter after a card becomes exposed.
Dealing early is a real decision
You may deal another row of up to eight cards whenever stock remains, including while foundation moves are available. The new row is aligned with the old columns, so it can cover useful gaps. A partial final row leaves its unused cells empty. Consider what a deal blocks as well as which new cards it makes available. Legal moves alone do not prove that the whole position can be finished.
One ordered redeal
When the stock is empty and no card can move to a foundation, one redeal is available. Gather remaining cards from the leftmost column to the rightmost, taking each column from its oldest row to its newest. The order is preserved without shuffling, and the first eight form a fresh row. Cards already on foundations stay there. Other Babette rule profiles use different gathering orders or allow foundation transfers; Garden Babette keeps the ordered profile described here.
Twenty studies from seven complete deals
The original course starts at twenty positions reached through legal play from seven complete deals. Remaining cards rise from nineteen to forty, necessary meaningful decisions from one to twenty-three, and inferior alternatives increase at every stage. Equivalent duplicate-card outcomes count once. These exact graph measurements describe planning pressure, not a predicted human solving time. Multiple moves can preserve a finish, and every legal move is accepted.
See future rows while studying
Studies deliberately show future stock with blue borders, beneath the current rows. Read each preview row from left to right, then continue downward. Preview cards cannot move until dealt. This information lets you compare complete plans before spending a hint. In a full game the future stock is hidden, leaving you to decide from the exposed layout and the number of cards still to come.
Hints explain every current alternative
Each study provides exact hints for three distinct positions. A completed search selects a card move or names the deal or redeal to confirm. Row details states which current alternatives preserve a complete finish and which do not. Repeating a hint at the same position is free, including after Undo. If an earlier choice has removed every finishing route, revisit that choice. A search reaching its limit remains inconclusive and costs nothing. Full-game suggestions use visible cards only and do not guarantee a win.
Restart and practice safely
Undo restores one whole move, deal or redeal without refunding hints. Restart repeats the same original position; changing the deal, mode or study asks first. Study unlocks, best completion scores and sound preference save locally. Unfinished games restart after reload, and unavailable storage limits progress to the current session. Some random deals cannot be won. No account, betting or remote opponent is involved.
Frequently asked questions
Does the whole column below a card need to be empty?
No. Only the cell immediately below matters. A card directly above a gap is exposed even if there are cards farther down the column.
May I deal while a foundation move is available?
Yes. This profile permits dealing at any time while stock remains. Planning that timing is part of the challenge.
Can I move a card between foundations?
No. Each foundation keeps its suit and direction, and cards cannot return from a foundation to the rows.
Why is the redeal button unavailable?
The stock must be empty, no foundation move may remain, and the single redeal must still be unused.
Why can I see future cards in a study?
The course uses open planning positions so exact alternatives can be compared. Random full games keep future stock hidden.
Are all full deals winnable?
No. The study positions have independently checked finishing paths, but random full deals and their visible-card suggestions carry no win guarantee.
