How to play Garden Calculation online

  1. Choose a full deal, a fixed practice deal or an unlocked open-stock study.
  2. Check the next required rank beneath each foundation. Suits do not matter.
  3. Move the exposed stock card to a matching foundation or one of four waste piles, or move a waste top to a foundation.
  4. Complete all four thirteen-card foundations, each ending at King. Use Undo to revisit a blocked plan.

Controls

Tap the exposed stock card or a waste top, then tap its destination and press Move card. Tap the same source again to clear it. Previous and Next source move the focus; Select source chooses the focused card. Previous and Next target cycle the four foundations followed by the four wastes. Left/Right arrows move source focus, Enter or Space selects, Up/Down choose targets, P moves, H hints, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, and Escape clears. Sequence chart shows the required ranks, buried waste cards and hint explanation.

A tip before you start

Before putting a stock card on a waste pile, compare when that card and the card below it can reach their foundations. A legal placement can trap a needed lower card. In an open study, include the known stock order; in a full deal those future cards remain unknown.

Four foundations, four counting intervals

An Ace, Two, Three and Four start the foundations. The first advances by one rank, the second by two, the third by three and the fourth by four. Continue counting around after King: on the second foundation, Queen is followed by Ace, then Three. Each foundation takes thirteen cards and ends at King. The next required rank is printed beneath every foundation, and Sequence chart lists all four complete sequences. Suits never affect which foundation accepts a card.

Place the exposed card before seeing another

A complete game uses one fifty-two-card deck. After the four starting cards are placed, the other forty-eight form the stock. Only its first card is exposed. Move that card to a foundation that needs its rank or to any waste pile; the next stock card then appears. You may also move a usable waste top before dealing with the exposed stock card. There is no separate draw that lets you skip a difficult card.

Why the waste piles need a plan

Each of the four waste piles can hold any number of cards, but only its top card is available. A waste card can move only to a foundation. It cannot move to another waste pile, and foundation cards cannot return. A card buried early may therefore wait behind cards that need to leave later. Sequence chart shows every waste pile from bottom to top so you can inspect the order without moving anything. There is no redeal.

A legal move does not guarantee a finish

The game ends successfully when all fifty-two cards occupy the foundations. If the stock is empty and no waste top matches a required rank, the attempt is blocked. Undo can reopen a previous decision; New deal starts a different shuffle. Random full games are not guaranteed winnable. A full-game suggestion receives only the visible cards, including the exposed stock card, and cannot inspect future stock.

Twenty original open-stock planning studies

The studies begin at positions reached through legal play from original complete deals. Their entire remaining stock order is shown, next card first, so you can reason about the finish without guessing hidden cards. Remaining cards increase from four to sixteen and necessary meaningful decisions from one to eleven. The number of losing continuations in the solved decision graph rises at every level. Equivalent waste arrangements count once, and multiple moves may preserve a win. These measurements describe planning pressure rather than a promised solving time.

Compare a winning move with a tempting mistake

A study allows hints for three distinct positions. When the exact search completes, it selects a move that keeps a full finishing path and may identify another legal move that blocks every finish. Read the explanation in Sequence chart, then confirm the move yourself. Repeating a hint for the same position costs nothing extra, including after Undo. If no finish remains, the hint advises revisiting an earlier choice. A search reaching its limit stays inconclusive and charges no hint.

Confirm moves and keep progress separate

Selecting a source and destination does not change the cards. An incorrect foundation rank or a waste-to-waste transfer cannot be confirmed. Undo restores one complete move without refunding hints. Restart repeats the starting deal. Starting another deal, changing mode or changing study asks before replacing your board. Study unlocks, best completion scores and sound preference save locally; unfinished games restart after reload. If storage is unavailable, progress lasts for this session. No account, betting or remote opponent is involved.

Frequently asked questions

What happens after King in an interval?

Counting wraps to Ace and continues. For example, the +3 sequence starts Three, Six, Nine, Queen, Two. Every foundation ends after its thirteenth card, which is King.

Can I move cards between waste piles?

No. Only a waste pile's top card can move, and its destination must be a foundation that needs that rank.

Can I choose a different suit for a foundation?

Suits do not matter. Any exposed card of the required rank fits; each foundation's interval and current length determine the next rank.

Does a suggestion read the hidden stock?

No. Full-game suggestions use only visible cards. Exact searches use the public remaining stock order in the study challenges.

Why are some study moves interchangeable?

Identical ranks and equivalent waste arrangements can lead to the same future choices. A study accepts every legal move and does not demand one arbitrary prescribed solution.

Can I replay a completed study?

Yes. Unlocked studies remain in the level selector. Changing studies asks before replacing the current attempt.
