The fleet is a clue to the numbers, and the numbers are a clue to the fleet. In Battleship Sudoku, each ship carries a printed sequence of digits that must fit the Sudoku grid. Garden Fleet Sudoku brings this linked logic puzzle to a water-lily garden table, with twenty original boards to solve free online, with no ads, account or download.
How to play Garden Fleet Sudoku online
- Choose an unlocked puzzle and inspect its printed ship sequences.
- Fill digits 1–9 once in every Sudoku row, column and box.
- Mark straight, separated ships that match their digits and the outside counts.
- Complete both layers to unlock the next original puzzle.
Controls
Click or tap a cell, then enter 1–9 with the digit buttons or keyboard. Digits mode enters numbers; Notes toggles pencil marks. Ship and Water modes let you tap cells to toggle their fleet marks. Use the arrow keys to move selection, D/S/W to change modes, Space to mark the selected cell, N for Options, C to Check, H for a Hint and U to Undo. Delete, Backspace or 0 clears the active layer. Dragging away cancels a tap.
A tip before you start
Look at a ship’s whole printed sequence before placing it. A three-cell ship marked 2–7–4 can face either way along a row or column, but its middle digit stays 7. Cross its possible positions with Sudoku repeats, given-water cells and the counts outside the grid.
One grid with two linked sets of clues
Fill every row, column and outlined three-by-three box with digits 1–9 once. At the same time, find the ten ships shown in the fleet panel. Every digit printed on a ship must match the grid cell it occupies. The ship numbers are visible from the start, so they can help you solve the Sudoku rather than appearing only after you finish.
Read the numbered fleet
The fleet contains one four-cell ship, two three-cell ships, three two-cell ships and four one-cell submarines: twenty ship cells altogether. A ship stays in one straight row or column. Rotate the complete printed sequence, including turning it around. You cannot rearrange the digits within a ship or bend its path around a corner.
Keep ships apart and respect the water
Different ships never touch, even diagonally. Every starting digit is a water cell and cannot contain a ship. Other cells may become water or ship cells as you solve. The count to the right of a row tells you how many ship cells belong there; the count below a column does the same for that column. A zero rules out ships along the whole line.
Twenty original puzzles with increasing planning pressure
Every board has an independently verified unique combined answer. In each puzzle, the Sudoku clues alone allow another digit solution, and the fleet counts without the ship numbers allow another layout. The numbered connections make the final answer unique. Later boards leave at least as many digits unknown and increase a fixed solver’s search work; the deductions you notice can still make a particular board feel easier.
Use notes without mistaking them for a proof
Options writes the digits allowed by the currently entered Sudoku row, column and box into the selected cell’s notes. These are Sudoku-only candidates: a number may still be ruled out by the fleet. Notes also appear in the selection summary. Check highlights direct repeats, touching or bent ships, fixed-water violations and exceeded row or column counts. A partial board with no highlighted error is not necessarily solvable.
Hints and Undo keep the two layers clear
Each puzzle allows three successful hints. In Digits mode a hint reveals a number; in Ship or Water mode it reveals a fleet mark. A hint uses a bounded search and makes an edit only after proving one combined completion. If the search reaches its limit, or your entries have no completion, it changes nothing and uses no hint. Undo restores the previous digits, marks and notes, while hints already used stay used.
Take your time at the garden table
There is no timer. Pause, open Help separately or restart with confirmation. Solving both layers unlocks the next puzzle; you do not have to mark every remaining water cell. Unlocked levels, best scores and sound preference save locally when browser storage is available. Reloading starts a fresh attempt. Full-screen controls are available when supported by your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Is Battleship Sudoku a two-player guessing game?
No. This is a single-player logic puzzle with visible clues. You solve a Sudoku and locate a numbered fleet; you do not fire shots at another player’s hidden board.
Can ships cover the starting Sudoku digits?
No. Given digits are fixed water cells. A ship may only occupy a cell that began without a digit.
Can I reverse a ship’s numbers?
Yes, by rotating the whole ship to face the other way. A sequence such as 2–7–4 may appear as 4–7–2, horizontally or vertically. The middle digit remains in the middle.
Why is a finished Sudoku not enough to win?
The fleet must also match all outside counts, separation rules and printed digit sequences. Fill the numbers and mark the twenty ship cells to finish.
What does Clear remove?
In Digits mode, Clear removes the selected number and pencil notes while keeping its fleet mark. In Ship or Water mode, it clears only the fleet mark. Given digits and their water status stay fixed.
Can I play without downloading an app?
Yes. The game supports touch, mouse and keyboard input on this page. Local storage keeps unlocked levels between visits when your browser allows it.
