How to play Garden River Crossing online
- Select one item on the same bank as the boat, or choose Empty boat.
- Press Sail to cross. The trip is allowed only if the bank you leave is safe.
- Bring all items to the right bank to unlock the next challenge.
Controls
Tap an item and press Sail, or drag the item onto the boat to select it. Tapping the boat also sails. Next item cycles through cargo on your bank, and Empty boat prepares an unaccompanied return. Undo reverses a whole crossing; Hint takes one shortest safe step.
A tip before you start
Sometimes you need to bring an item back. The goat links both dangerous pairs, so leaving it with the wolf or cabbage can prevent an otherwise tempting trip.
A river crossing puzzle online, one safe trip at a time
Twenty original starting positions have exact shortest routes from two trips to twenty-one, increasing at every level. A search of the legal positions verifies those routes. Cargo grows from three items to ten, and the hint allowance drops from twenty to one.
Read the two supervision rules
The wolf and goat cannot share an unattended bank, and neither can the goat and cabbage. Only these two pictured pairs need supervision; the other closed parcels and tools can safely stay together. An unsafe trip is refused with an explanation, so nothing is lost.
Short starts before full crossings
Some challenges begin partway through the crossing, with items already on both banks. There is no timer or trip limit. The display shows the shortest trips remaining from your current safe position.
