Garden Russian Solitaire is a Russian solitaire card game with seven columns, hidden cards and four foundations. Move a face-up card with its entire trailing group onto the next higher card of the same suit, even when that group is not arranged in order. Play a complete random deal or learn through 20 prepared endgames, free online with no ads or download.
Choose Full Deal for a standard shuffled 52-card game, or 20 Challenges for reachable endgames with some cards already home.
Select any face-up card. It moves with every card below it, whether those trailing cards form a sequence or not.
Choose a column whose exposed card is one rank higher and the same suit as your selected first card. Only a King or King-led group can fill an empty column.
Send exposed single cards Home in each suit from Ace through King. Clear all seven columns to complete all four foundations.
Controls
Click or tap a card and then its destination column. Tap a column number to inspect all its cards in the enlarged panel; you can also select a card there. Left/Right changes column focus, Up/Down changes card focus, and Enter or Space selects. Keys 1–7 choose a destination, F sends Home, H previews a hint, U undoes, and Escape clears selection. The on-screen buttons offer the same controls.
A tip before you start
Look for a move that exposes a hidden card without trapping another card of its suit. The first card of a moved group must fit its destination, but the rest of the group can be unordered. Before moving a long tail, inspect every card it will carry and where the next needed foundation card will end up.
Russian Solitaire rules
A full deal uses all 52 cards in columns of 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 cards. The first column is face up; the other columns each show their final five cards, with one through six hidden cards underneath. Exposing a hidden card turns it face up. There is no stock, waste pile or redeal. Columns build downward in the same suit, and foundations build upward from Ace to King. In this version, foundation cards stay home; Undo can reverse the move that sent a card there.
Twenty reachable endgames
Challenges begin at positions reached through legal play from complete standard deals. All 52 cards remain accounted for, including those already in foundations. The number still to bring home rises from 5 to 44, while later positions include longer unordered groups and more hidden cards. Every starting challenge has a verified clearing route.
Full deals and prepared challenges
Full Deal provides a complete shuffled game and does not promise a winning route. A full-deal win does not unlock challenges. Restart repeats the identical deck and starting position. New deal asks before replacing it with a different shuffle. Challenges have fixed starting positions, so restarting does not change the puzzle.
Read and select a whole column
The seven columns remain on screen alongside the foundations. Tall columns compress their overlap, and the enlarged inspector shows every card in the focused column in reading order, including hidden card backs. A gold outline marks the selected tail. Tap a column number to inspect it without making a move, then select the precise face-up card in its enlarged cell.
Hints, Undo and blocked positions
Hint previews a move on a verified clearing route; Play hint performs that move. Away from a known route, hints search within a limit and say when that limit is reached. A search limit is not proof that a deal is impossible. Undo restores the entire moved group, any newly revealed card and foundation changes; it does not refund hint use. If no legal move remains, Undo or Restart is still available.
Local progress
Challenge unlocks, best scores and sound preferences save on this device when local storage works. Unfinished positions and Undo histories are not saved. Reload starts a fresh challenge 1 while retaining those records; other unlocked challenges remain selectable.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move a group that is not in order?
Yes. Any face-up card can lead a move, and every card below it travels with it. Only the leading card must be one rank below the destination card and match its suit.
Does Russian Solitaire have a stock pile?
No. All 52 cards are dealt into seven columns at the start. There is no waste pile, stock or redeal.
What can fill an empty column?
Only a King or a group led by a King. The cards following that King do not need to be in sequence.
Is every random deal winnable?
No. Full Deal is a standard shuffle without a solvability guarantee. Each prepared challenge starts from a separately verified solvable endgame, although later choices can still block progress.
Can I bring a foundation card back to a column?
This version does not allow foundation withdrawals. Use Undo to reverse an earlier move, including one that sent a card Home.
Does Restart give me a different deal?
No. Restart repeats the same starting position and deck. In Full Deal, use the separate New deal button and confirm when you want a different shuffle.
