How to play Garden Spellcheck online

  1. Read the definition and the sentence with a missing word. Choose the correct US spelling from three options by tapping it or pressing 1, 2 or 3.
  2. After a correct choice, type the complete word with the screen keyboard or A–Z. Choose Check or press Enter. Prefix clues help in the earlier levels.
  3. Correct a mistake using its explanation, then continue to the next word. Finish every required word to unlock the next challenge.

Controls

Tap an option or use the arrow keys and Choose. During typing, Backspace removes one letter, Clear removes the whole entry, and Check submits it. Undo reverses the last choice, edit or check. Hint removes one wrong choice or reveals one more prefix letter, depending on the stage. Used hints are not refunded by Undo.

A tip before you start

Look for the exact letter pattern, not just the shape of the word. Necessary has one c and two s letters; accommodate has double c and double m. After choosing, say the letter groups to yourself before typing the whole word.

Word spelling games for adults

The first group practices everyday words such as address and because. The next group includes receive, separate and necessary. Later challenges add patterns in words such as maintenance, occurrence and pronunciation. Each answer includes an original sentence, definition and short explanation of its spelling.

Twenty challenges with more to remember

The required number of distinct words rises from one to twenty. The word group advances from everyday spellings to common trouble spots and then tricky letter patterns. Initial prefix clues decrease from two letters to one and then none, while the shared hint allowance drops from three to two and then one. There is no timer or life limit: a wrong answer stays open for correction.

Free online spelling games for adults

All twenty levels are free to play in the browser, with no download or account. No ads. Every question has a written clue, so you can complete the game without sound, a microphone or a speech service. This is practice at your own pace, without a promise of measured learning results.

US spellings and accepted variants

Choices and explanations display US spellings. In the whole-word stage, neighbour, favourite and judgement are also accepted for neighbor, favorite and judgment. Other questions use the displayed US answer. The goal is to practice the particular word in its sentence, not to submit any synonym that could fit the meaning.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play spelling games for adults free of charge?

Yes. All twenty Garden Spellcheck challenges are free to play here, with no download or account. Read a definition and sentence, choose the correct spelling, then type the word after the choices disappear. Mistakes can be corrected without a timer or life limit.

What makes these spelling games online for adults different from a word scramble?

You receive a definition and sentence rather than a rack of mixed letters. First you distinguish a correct spelling from two mistakes. Then the choices disappear and you enter the whole word from memory.

Can I finish without listening to audio?

Yes. The game uses written definitions and context sentences throughout. It does not require recorded pronunciation or browser speech support.

Does a mistake end the level?

No. You get an explanation and can try again. A wrong choice is marked so you can choose another, and an incorrect typed answer stays editable. Corrections affect the score but never prevent completion.

What happens when I use Undo?

Undo restores the previous choice, text edit or checked answer. A used hint remains spent. Starting the next word clears the previous word's Undo history; already earned level unlocks stay available.

What is saved when I reload?

Unlocked levels, best scores and sound settings are saved when browser storage is available. Unfinished questions are not saved; reloading starts a fresh attempt at level one.

Can I play on a phone?

The portrait layout keeps the clue and current answer controls in the game window. Tap the choices and letter keyboard, or connect a physical keyboard. Help opens in a separate dialog.
