How to play Garden Chinese Ten online

  1. Choose one of your twelve hand cards. Cards A through 9 capture one table card that makes a total of ten; 10, J, Q and K capture one of the same rank.
  2. Inspect the gold target outline. Choose another eligible table card if needed, then press Play card. If your chosen card can capture, it must; otherwise it stays on the table.
  3. Resolve the exposed stock card using the same rule and press Play flip. After both players finish their hands and the stock is empty, compare red-card points. The higher score wins.

Controls

Tap a hand card, then tap the table target you want to capture. Target arrows cycle alternatives. Play card commits a hand choice; Play flip resolves the exposed stock card. Number keys 1–9, 0, minus and equals select all twelve hand positions; arrows move focus and Enter or Space selects. P plays, A/B cycle targets, H hints, and U or Ctrl+Z undoes in studies. Escape clears a hand choice. Help and Score & rules open separate dialogs.

A tip before you start

A black card can capture a valuable red card. For example, a black 9 can take a red Ace worth 20 points, while that same red Ace can also be used to capture a 9. When two eligible targets are available, their suits can change the reward even though suits do not change which pair is legal.

Two actions make one turn

This two-player version uses all 52 cards. Each player starts with twelve, four are face up on the table and 24 remain in the stock. The nondealer goes first. Play one hand card, then turn up and resolve one stock card before the opponent acts. Captured cards stay in a separate pile; they never return to your hand. Your original twelve cards last for the whole deal.

The pairing rule

Ace counts as 1 when pairing. A and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 4 and 6, or 5 and 5 make ten. Each capture normally takes exactly one table card together with the card you played. A 10 captures another 10, a Jack another Jack, a Queen another Queen and a King another King. You cannot combine three small cards into a sum or extend a capture into an ascending run.

Captures are required for the chosen card

You choose which hand card to play, but if that card has an eligible table target, you must capture. If several targets match, choose one. A card with no target stays on the table. The exposed stock card follows the same rule, including your choice between targets. Its result is not automatically decided for you; check the preview before pressing Play flip.

Red cards carry the points

Only hearts and diamonds score in this two-player profile. A red Ace is worth 20 points. Red 2 through 8 score their face values, and red 9, 10, J, Q and K are worth 10 each. Every black card, including both black Aces, scores zero. There are 210 points in the deck. After the complete deal, the higher total wins; 105 each is a tie. There are no cash stakes or running match bonus rules.

Special cases in the initial layout

An initial group of three 5s, three 10s, three Jacks, three Queens or three Kings is captured together by the fourth card of that rank. If all four initial table cards have one of those same ranks, the dealer receives them immediately. The table is not refilled. These exceptions apply to that initial layout, not to arbitrary three-card sums. They let the deal finish with all 52 cards captured.

A clearly stated two-player profile

Garden Chinese Ten follows the basic two-player Pagat setup and red-card scoring. It does not use the extra black-Ace scores of three- or four-player games, the black-card scoring of Red Frog Black Frog, or the larger initial layout of Main Merah. Those are different versions. One complete deal has 24 hand plays and 24 stock resolutions, with the final stock action clearing the remaining table.

Twenty studies with open future cards

Studies start from positions reached through legal play. Both hands and every remaining stock card are visible. Read the stock row from left to right; a gold outlined first card is already exposed and must be resolved next. Guarantee the displayed additional red points against every legal opposing reply. Any line that reaches the target is accepted. Later studies increase distinct meaningful decisions and planning depth, progressing from two-card hands to four-card endings. The open stock is a planning exercise, not a prediction of hidden cards in normal games.

Advice, Undo and saved progress

The normal computer and normal Hint use only that player's own hand and public information. They do not read the hidden opposing hand or future stock. Normal-game choices stay committed, so Undo is available only in studies. A study Undo restores your previous decision and any computer reply. Two successful study hints are not refunded by Undo. Restart repeats the same deal after confirmation; New deal changes it. Unlocks, best study results and sound preference save locally. An unfinished deal restarts after reload.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drop a card instead of taking its matching target?

No. If the card you choose can capture, this game requires a capture. You can choose another hand card before committing, and you can choose between multiple matching targets.

Why did a black Ace score nothing?

Both black Aces are worth zero in the two-player profile. Red Aces score 20. Extra black-Ace values belong to other player-count versions.

Does the stock card belong to my hand?

No. It is exposed after you play from your hand and must be resolved immediately. If it captures, both cards enter your captured pile; otherwise it remains on the table.

Why are the computer's cards and future stock visible in studies?

Studies are explicitly open-information planning positions. The complete CPU game keeps those cards hidden and its advice does not inspect them.

Can I undo a normal game?

Normal choices are committed because resolving a stock card reveals new information. Studies allow Undo and show the future stock from the start.

Can two players join online?

This version has a computer opponent and solo studies. It does not offer remote rooms, cash stakes or in-game ads.
