How to play Garden Ronda online

  1. Choose one of your four hand cards. A matching table rank captures that card and every consecutive higher rank, together with the card you played. A gap ends the run.
  2. Without a matching rank, your card stays on the table. Directly matching the opponent's last dropped card earns a caida; clearing the table usually earns a missa.
  3. Capture bonuses, automatic declarations and cards above 20 add match points. Reach at least 41 with a lead to win. Capture studies use their own displayed card target.

Controls

Tap a hand card to preview its captures, then press Play selected. Keys 1–4 select a card; arrows move focus, Enter or Space selects, P plays and Escape clears. H requests a hint, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, and C starts the next deck when available. Score & rules shows the public scoring ledger. Help, pause, sound, restart and fullscreen controls are available.

A tip before you start

A low card can collect a long run, but only if its own rank is already on the table. For example, a 6 can take 6, 7 and J, while a missing Q leaves K behind. Before dropping a card, consider both the immediate caida it offers and the larger capture it might make available later.

The four-card teaching rules

Two players use 40 distinct cards, with no cards on the table initially. Each receives four cards in each of five hand batches. The non-dealer starts every batch, and the dealer alternates after a complete deck. This browser table uses familiar French suits as decoration: A is 1, 2–7 keep their ranks, J is 10, Q is 11 and K is 12. Printed 8s, 9s and 10s are absent, so the jack directly follows the 7.

Matching a rank and taking the ascending run

Play one card on your turn. If its rank matches a table card, take that pair and every consecutive higher rank available. You cannot decline a capture or stop the run early. With no matching rank, the played card remains on the table. Suits have no effect. This equal-and-run rule differs from Scopa's equal-or-sum captures.

Caida, missa and the final cards

Earn 1 caida point by directly matching the exact card the opponent just dropped. Capturing it only as part of a higher run does not qualify. The previous-drop reference resets between hand batches, so there is no caida across a fresh deal. Emptying the table with a capture earns 1 missa point, except on the final card of the entire deck. That final card can still earn caida. Any cards left on the table then belong to the last player who captured.

Automatic ronda and tringa announcements

A pair is a ronda worth 1, and three equal ranks form a tringa worth 5. Two different pairs count as two rondas; four equal cards also count as two rondas. The game announces these honestly and displays their type during the hand batch. After both players finish that batch, pool the declaration points. A tringa beats any pair, then the higher rank wins the whole pool. If both players share the best pair rank, split the pool equally and discard a fractional point.

A complete match to 41

Capture bonuses score as they occur. Declarations settle after each completed four-card hand batch. At the end of the full deck, each captured card above 20 adds 1 point. A score of at least 41 with a lead ends the match immediately after that scoring event, before later pending categories. If simultaneous equal declaration awards tie both scores at 41 or above, this table continues until a later scoring event creates a lead.

What this named profile includes

This is an automatic-announcement teaching adaptation, not a claim that every Ronda table uses the same rules. It omits concealed or false announcements, risky declaration challenges, four-player capture chains and the advanced dealer-final-card bonus. Other versions use three-card hands, an initial four-card table or different declaration timing. The rules above apply consistently to this game.

Twenty open-hand capture studies

A study starts from a position reached by legal play in this four-card profile. Both final hands are visible and the stock is empty. Finish the remaining cards and collect at least the stated number of additional captures against every legal opponent reply. Ordinary points do not end a study, and its goal is not a complete 41-point match win. Hand size grows from two to four, meaningful planning depth grows from one to three decisions, and the number of consequential capture choices increases at every level.

Computer play, Undo and saved progress

In a normal match the computer sees its own hand, public cards, scores and announcement types, without seeing your card identities or future stock order. Its immediate-capture advice is beatable. Studies use the disclosed hands to defend the capture target. Two successful study hints are available; a search limit means unknown, and Undo does not refund used hints. Undo restores your action and the computer reply, including the same next deck. Confirmed Restart repeats the seed; New match uses a new one. Only unlocks, best results and sound preferences save locally. Unfinished matches restart after reloading.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a jack follow a 7?

The 40-card rank order is 1–7, 10, 11, 12. The displayed J, Q and K carry the small labels 10, 11 and 12. There are no ranks 8 or 9 in the capture sequence.

Can I leave a matching card on the table?

No. If your chosen card matches a table rank, that pair and the entire available ascending run must be captured. You may instead choose a different hand card that has no match.

Does the final card earn a sweep bonus?

No missa is awarded for clearing the table with the last card of the deck. A valid direct-match caida still scores.

Can I bluff a declaration here?

No. This teaching version announces genuine combinations automatically and settles them at the end of the hand batch. It does not include false announcements or challenges.

Why did four equal cards count as two rondas?

That is the declared four-card rule: a quartet counts as two pairs worth 2, rather than a tringa worth 5.

Do the studies use the same hidden hands as a normal match?

No. They reveal both hands so you can plan guaranteed captures. A full CPU match hides the opponent's cards and the stock.

Can I play a remote opponent?

This version offers a computer opponent and solo capture studies. It has no remote matchmaking or shared-room multiplayer.
