How to play Garden GOPS online

  1. Choose a full CPU match or an open planning study. Both players begin a full match with one bid of every rank from 1 to 13.
  2. Select one of your remaining bid cards, then press Reveal bids. The computer has already sealed its choice before you select yours.
  3. Follow the prize total and the cards still available. A full match ends after 13 rounds; a study ends when its remaining cards have been played.

Controls

Tap a card and use Reveal bids to confirm it. Previous, Next card and Select provide another way to choose. Arrow keys move focus, Enter or Space selects, B reveals, U undoes and H offers a hint. Help, sound, pause and fullscreen controls are available.

A tip before you start

Look at the whole prize pot before spending a high bid. A tie can make the following prize much more valuable. In a study, compare both visible future sequences before choosing the order of your own cards.

How to play GOPS card game

Each round reveals one prize card. Both players spend a bid, and the higher bid takes the prize pot. Equal bids carry the pot forward, with the next prize added. If the last bids tie, the remaining pot goes to neither player. The greater total of collected prize points wins; equal totals draw.

Ranks, prizes and the chosen tie rule

Garden GOPS displays ranks as numbers: Ace is 1, Jack is 11, Queen is 12 and King is 13. A prize is worth its displayed rank. This game uses carryover ties; it does not discard a tied prize immediately or treat the Ace as the highest card.

A computer that seals its bid first

In a full match, the computer chooses using the current prize, the carryover and the publicly known remaining bids. Your selection cannot change its sealed choice. Its randomized approach is a simple opponent, not a claim of optimal play. Future prizes stay hidden.

Twenty openly planned studies

Studies deliberately show the future prize order and the rival bid order in two matching rows. Read both from left to right and plan which of your cards to spend. The goal is a stated number of additional prize points, which may differ from winning the full match. Later studies contain more consequential alternatives and require more planning.

Explore a different bid order

Undo restores the preceding round, including the same computer commitment and future card order. Study hints select a suggested bid without playing it; their allowance is not restored by Undo. Restart repeats the current position, while New deal starts a fresh full match after confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the Game of Pure Strategy card game?

Yes. GOPS stands for Game of Pure Strategy, and Goofspiel is another name for the same card game. These names share one game here; they are not separate variants.

Are the studies normal hidden-bid matches?

No. They are explicitly open planning lessons: you can see both future sequences. A full CPU match keeps its sealed bid and future prizes hidden. Study solutions do not claim to solve the hidden simultaneous game.

Can I save my strongest card after the final round?

Every remaining bid is spent by the end of a match. A high card kept too long may compete for a smaller prize, while a final equal bid leaves that prize pot unawarded.

Does the game save my progress?

Unlocked studies, best study scores and your sound preference save on this device when local storage is available. Unfinished matches restart after a reload. If storage is unavailable, you can still play during the session.

Can I play with a friend over the internet?

This version offers a computer opponent and solo planning studies. It does not include online matchmaking or remote multiplayer.
