How to play Garden Casket online
- Choose a full game, a fixed practice deck or an unlocked practice level.
- Build the eight foundations from Ace to King in matching suits.
- Move body tops down one rank in the same suit. Only one card moves at a time.
- Release lid cards to uncover jewels, remembering that a lid cannot fill an empty body.
- Route each stock card to one of three reserves before moving it elsewhere. Complete every foundation to win.
Controls
Tap a body, lid or reserve top to select it, tap a foundation or body destination, then press Move. Use Reserve 1, 2 or 3 to route the exposed stock card. Pile details shows buried cards. Arrow keys navigate sources and destinations; Enter selects, P moves, 1–3 routes stock, H hints and U or Ctrl+Z undoes. Dragging or cancelling a touch does not move a card.
A tip before you start
Keep track of the lowest card buried in each reserve. Covering a needed nine with a queen makes the nine unavailable until the queen moves. Before adding that queen, check whether a body pile can receive it and whether the next foundation ranks are already accessible.
A two-deck game with several kinds of space
The full game uses 104 cards: eight start the body, five form the lid, thirteen form the hidden jewels and seventy-eight remain in stock. The eight foundations start empty. Each builds Ace through King in one suit; two foundations belong to each suit. Foundation cards stay there unless you Undo the action. This game uses single-card moves, has no King–Ace wrapping and offers no redeal.
Why a lid card cannot fill that gap
A lid card may go to an accepting foundation or onto a nonempty body pile, one rank below its top in the same suit. It cannot start an empty body pile. A body top or reserve top can fill that space. This exception makes two visually similar empty spaces behave differently: an empty body is useful working space, while an empty lid is governed by the jewels.
Uncover the thirteen jewels
Moving a lid card automatically brings the next jewel into that lid space. Jewels cannot be selected or moved directly. Once all thirteen are used, empty lids stay empty. Some Casket versions allow reserve or stock cards to refill spent lids. Garden Casket follows the profile that does not, so that rule remains consistent in full games and practice.
Three reserves, one exposed stock card
The stock shows its current card. Route it to Reserve 1, 2 or 3 first, even if a foundation could otherwise accept it. Only then can it move from the reserve. Reserve tops may go to foundations or body piles, but they cannot exchange cards directly. Stock routing changes which cards are buried, so an available foundation move and a convenient reserve placement are different decisions.
Twenty original practice positions
The course begins with six cards left outside the foundations and reaches forty-four. Later positions introduce more occupied body piles, stock routing, lids and jewel refills. These are original constructed exercises with partially built foundations, not positions claimed to come from shuffled deals. Every starting exercise has a verified finishing route. More cards and interacting rules increase the work to coordinate; the levels are not presented as a measurement of human solving time or an optimal difficulty ranking.
Inspect the piles and use a hint
Pile details lists body and reserve cards from bottom to top. Practice positions also disclose the stock and jewel order, so you can plan with complete information. Up to three hints can search for a full finishing route and select its next action for you to confirm. Repeated hints at the same position are cached during the session. A search reaching its time or position limit is unknown and costs no hint. In full games, future stock and jewels remain hidden and suggestions use visible cards only; they do not guarantee victory.
Undo, restart and save your progress
Undo restores the previous move, including any automatic jewel refill, without refunding hints. Restart asks before replacing the current board. Unlocked practice levels, sound preference and the active game save locally. If storage is unavailable, the game remains playable for the current session and displays a notice. Full random deals are not guaranteed winnable. There are no accounts, stakes or remote opponents.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move directly from stock to a foundation?
No. Route the current stock card to one of the three reserves first, then move it from there.
Why does an empty body reject a lid card?
That is part of the selected Casket rule profile. Use a reserve top or another body card to fill an empty body.
Can I refill the lid after the jewels run out?
No. Empty lids stay empty in this version; the alternative rule allowing stock or reserve refills is not used.
Can I move a complete descending sequence?
No. Only the top card moves, even when a longer suited descending sequence is visible.
Are the practice layouts random deals?
No. They are original constructed positions designed to introduce the different zones. Full game mode deals all 104 cards from a shuffled deck.
Does Hint always know whether I can win?
No. Practice search has a budget and can report an unknown result. Full-game suggestions use only visible cards and never certify a finish.
