Play Garden Morris Online
Garden Morris lets you play Nine Men's Morris online with an illustrated board and a computer opponent. Choose Full match to begin with nine stones each, or work through twenty separate endgame challenges. Make rows of three, capture opposing stones and plan your next mill.
How to play Garden Morris online
- In Full match, take turns placing all nine white and nine black stones on the 24 board points. You play white.
- After placement, select a white stone and move to a neighboring point along a line. With exactly three stones left, you may fly to any empty point.
- Complete a mill of three stones to capture one black stone. Win by leaving the computer fewer than three stones after its reserve is empty, or with no legal move.
Controls
Tap a white stone and then a legal destination, or drag between the two points. During placement, tap an empty point. After making a mill, choose a highlighted black stone to capture. Previous point, Next point and Use point offer a button alternative. Undo turn restores your previous move and the computer reply; if a capture is pending, it cancels that unfinished turn first.
A tip before you start
Watch the middle points that link the three squares. Keep a mill that can open and close again, but check whether moving its stone gives the computer a mill of its own. When only three stones remain, flying changes which threats you must block.
A complete match from the empty board
Full match starts with nine stones in each reserve. The computer chooses its moves with a limited search, so it is an opponent to practice against rather than a promise of perfect play. Full-match wins do not unlock challenge levels.
Twenty endgames, with a clear turn limit
Challenges begin from selected late-game positions. The early tasks can be won in one white turn; later groups require planning across two or three white turns. Every starting position has a checked forced win within its limit against any legal computer reply. The fixed checking method explores more possibilities at each successive level. A different move may lose that forced win, so Undo lets you try another line.
Which stone can I capture?
Take a black stone outside a mill whenever one is available. If every black stone belongs to a mill, you may take any of them. A move that forms two mills still earns only one capture in this version. A mill that is opened and formed again earns another capture.
Draws and restarting
The same board position with the same player to move three times is a draw. This version also draws after 100 movement turns without a capture. Mode changes and Restart ask for confirmation before replacing the board.

Is the game free to play?
Yes. Both Full match and all twenty challenges are free, with no ads and no download.
What does Hint do?
Hint marks a suggested complete turn. You can follow it yourself or choose Play hint, which also makes the indicated capture. Challenge hints use a verified winning line when available; after a different move, a limited search may ask you to undo. Full-match hints are suggestions, not guaranteed wins.
Do the challenges use shorter rules?
No. They use the same movement, flying, mill and capture rules, but start from endgame positions and add a turn limit. Full match remains available as a separate complete game.
What happens if I refresh the page?
Unlocked challenges, best challenge scores and sound settings are saved in this browser when storage is available. An unfinished board is not saved. Reloading opens challenge one, and you can select any challenge you have already unlocked.
Can I use a phone or computer?
Use a mouse, touch or the point-selection buttons. The board and controls scale inside the game window, and Help opens in a separate dialog. Full screen is available where your browser supports it.
