Play Garden Reversi Online

Garden Reversi brings three ways to play the classic disc-flipping board game: a complete match for two people sharing one device, a complete game against the computer, and twenty endgame challenges. Bracket opposing discs, flip every captured line, and plan for the final count rather than the biggest immediate gain.

How to play Garden Reversi online

  1. Choose Two players to take turns on the same device, Vs computer for a full solo match, or Challenges for an endgame target.
  2. Place a disc on a marked legal square. It must trap at least one opposing disc between the new disc and one of your existing discs in a straight line.
  3. Continue until neither color can move. The higher disc count wins a full game; a challenge requires the displayed final margin for your assigned color.

Controls

Tap or click a marked square to place a disc. Previous move and Next move cycle through legal squares; Place disc plays the selected square. Hint marks one move without playing it, and Place hint applies it. During an attempt, Undo turn restores your previous move and every computer reply that followed it. In Two players mode, Undo turn reverses one player's move. Pause stops play. Restart and mode changes require confirmation before replacing the board.

A tip before you start

A corner cannot be flipped because no opposing line can extend beyond it. Check whether a tempting move beside a corner gives that corner away on the next turn. Near the end, also watch empty regions and forced passes: having fewer discs before the final moves does not necessarily mean losing the game.

Two players taking turns on one device

Choose Two players to share the same phone, tablet, or computer. Black moves first, then both people alternate legal moves on the displayed board. This is local turn-taking on one device; there are no remote rooms, friend invitations, or online matchmaking.

A complete game against the computer

Vs computer starts from the standard four-disc position on an eight-by-eight board. You play Black and the computer plays White. Play the entire match through captures, passes, and the final count. This practice opponent uses a limited search; the exact endgame replies described below belong to Challenges.

Twenty endgames with a precise target

Each challenge assigns you Black or White and displays the minimum number of discs you must finish ahead. The starting positions come from legal full games, and their targets have been verified against the opponent's best replies. Empty squares increase from three to twelve, with two positions at each size and increasing verified search work across the twenty challenges. A move that merely wins the board may still miss a larger target. Only meeting a challenge target unlocks the next challenge; full matches do not unlock levels.

All captures count, and passes are automatic

A move can capture horizontally, vertically, diagonally, or in several directions at once. Every bracketed opposing disc flips. You cannot skip your turn when a legal move exists. If one color has no legal move, it passes automatically; if neither color can move, the game ends even with empty squares left. Equal final counts make a full-game draw.

Recover after a wrong endgame move

A challenge starts with a proved route, but another choice may miss its target. Undo returns to your previous decision, including any consecutive computer replies caused by a forced pass. If exact analysis reaches its safety limit, the game offers Undo or Restart instead of awarding an unverified result. Hints outline a suggested square; they do not place a disc automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play this Reversi game online free?

Yes. All three modes and all twenty challenges are free, with no ads and no download. Open the game in your browser to play.

Can two friends play from different devices?

No. Two players mode is for two people taking turns on the same device. Use Vs computer when you want a complete solo match.

Why did one color play twice in a row?

The other color had no legal move and automatically passed. This can happen more than once. The match ends only when neither color has a legal move.

Does winning against the computer unlock a challenge?

Only a win in Challenges that meets the displayed target unlocks the next challenge. Complete computer games and same-device two-player games have their own results and do not advance the challenge list.

What happens when I reload the page?

Reloading opens a fresh board at Challenge 1. Your unlocked challenges, best scores, and sound preference remain saved in this browser when local storage is available. An unfinished board or selected full-game mode is not restored.

How do I use the game on a phone or computer?

Use touch, a mouse, or the Previous move, Next move, and Place disc buttons. The game scales its board and controls to the available window, and Help opens separately. Full screen is available where your browser supports it.
