How to play Garden Spider Web online

  1. Inspect the seven columns and identify same-suit descending tails that can move together.
  2. Move a card or legal tail onto a card exactly one rank higher, regardless of the destination suit. An empty column accepts any legal tail.
  3. Use the single reserve cell for one exposed card. Deal seven cards from stock when you need new options; empty columns also receive a card.
  4. Assemble each suit from king down to ace. Complete runs disappear automatically; remove all four to win.

Controls

Select an exposed card or a same-suit descending tail, then select its destination column or the cell. Left and right move column focus; up and down inspect cards within the focused column. Enter selects, C chooses the cell, D deals seven cards, E explains, H hints, U undoes and Escape clears. The enlarged focus card identifies cards in compressed columns.

A tip before you start

A mixed-suit descending column can be built legally but cannot move as one group. Keep the single cell available to separate those suit breaks and reconnect a longer suited run.

One deck, seven columns and one spare cell

A complete game uses all fifty-two cards of a standard deck. The first three columns receive four cards each and the other four receive three each, all face up. Twenty-eight cards remain in stock. The reserve is a single cell: it can hold exactly one exposed card. You cannot move a group into the cell or cover a card already there.

Building and moving use different suit rules

You may place a red 8 on a black 9 because building only checks that the rank drops by one. However, a tail moves together only when every card descends by one and shares the same suit. For example, 9♣–8♣–7♣ may move as one group onto any 10. A 9♣–8♥–7♥ cannot move as a group, although its 8♥–7♥ tail can. Explain checks the focused tail and tells you which rule applies.

Use the cell to reconnect a suit

Suppose a card blocks a useful suited run. Move that one top card into the empty cell, transfer the newly exposed run, and then return the cell card to a legal column. This frees space for the next plan. The cell does not grant permission to move an arbitrary mixed-suit group in one action. You must make each legal move explicitly.

Stock timing and complete runs

Deal places one card on each column, even if some columns are empty. There are four stock packets and no redeal. New cards can interrupt otherwise movable tails, so inspect your available moves before dealing. Once a column ends with a complete king-to-ace sequence in one suit, that thirteen-card run is removed automatically. Undo restores the whole action, including any run removed by it.

Twenty connected studies with increasing structural work

The studies are twenty different reachable positions from one original complete deal. They are a connected teaching sequence, not twenty independently shuffled games. Later studies introduce more unfinished structure: the combined count of stock cards, breaks between same-suit descending neighbors and an occupied cell increases at every level, from zero to forty-four. Remaining stock and unfinished cards never decrease. The opening study is a final-run exercise; later studies include all fifty-two cards and stock timing. Each study has a verified winning continuation, without a shortest-route or measured human-difficulty claim.

Hints and full deals have clear limits

Hint highlights one action on a verified continuation; Play hint executes it. The search may inspect hidden stock order. A search limit means the answer is unknown and spends no hint. It does not prove a game unwinnable. Full Deal creates a complete shuffled game with no guarantee that it can be won. Restart repeats the same start after confirmation; New deal replaces a full game after confirmation. Study wins unlock subsequent studies, while full-deal wins leave study unlocks unchanged.

The one-cell rule profile

This page uses the one-deck, seven-column, one-cell Spider Web profile with dealing onto empty columns allowed. Some games with the same name use an unlimited reserve or forbid stock deals while a column is empty. Those rules are not mixed into this version. The separate Garden Spider Two Suits game uses a different deck, layout and suit system and retains its own page.

Inspect long columns without leaving the board

All columns, the stock, the cell and the completed-run count remain on the game board. Long columns compress their overlapping cards. The focus buttons and enlarged card let you inspect and select any tail without relying on a tiny card strip. Dragging away cancels a tap; choosing the source column again clears selection. Help opens separately and Pause blocks play. Local storage retains unlocked studies, best scores and sound, not an active deal. Reload begins a fresh first study with saved records retained; unavailable storage limits records to the session.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move a mixed-suit group?

No. You may build downward across different suits, but only a descending tail in one suit moves together. Shorten the selected tail or use the cell to reorganize individual cards.

How many cards can the cell hold?

One. It accepts a single exposed card and cannot receive another until that card moves back to a column.

Can I deal with an empty column?

Yes. In this version, every stock packet places one card on each of the seven columns, including empty ones.

Why did thirteen cards disappear?

A full same-suit king-to-ace run was completed and automatically collected. Finish all four suits to win. Undo can restore the action and its collected run.

Are the twenty studies twenty different shuffles?

No. They are distinct legal positions from one original full game, arranged into a progressive teaching sequence. Full Deal provides additional complete shuffles without a winnability guarantee.
